Encouraging Bible Verses (Part 1)

We believe that true recovery from addiction comes from discovering God’s love and developing a lifelong relationship with Him. As part of our Christian recovery programs, our students have daily devotional times where they study God’s Word and the promises within. Our staff have gathered verses on a variety of topics, and our hope is that these verses will encourage you and help you at whatever point of your life you are currently walking through.

Verses on Hope

The Bible is full of verses and stories of hope. We know that many of our students come to our addiction recovery programs feeling hopeless and lost. We use these verses (and many more) to help encourage them and remind them of the hope of God. Some of our favorite verses on hope are:

  • Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
  • 1 Corinthians 2:9: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.
  • Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  • Romans 15:13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Verses on Trust

Trust is important in any relationship, especially a relationship with God. The Bible talks about trust on several occasions. Some of our favorite verses on trust are:

  • Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
  • Psalm 13:5: But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
  • Isaiah 40:31: But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Verses on Strength

Recovering from addiction takes a significant amount of internal strength. On times where you are struggling on your journey, the Bible has several verses to help give you strength. Some of our favorite strength verses are:

  • Psalm 46:1-3: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
  • Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  • Joshua 1:9: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
