JOB DESCRIPTION – April 2016

 

 

POSITION: Program Support Staff Floater

 

 

PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide relief to other staff members and a Christ-centered supervision and mentorship to adolescent boys, offering them a safe and caring environment to find restoration and growth.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Personal integrity and self-motivation in the fulfillment of this role. Have a heart for God and a desire to serve.
  • Documented minimum of 1 full year freedom from chemical use (including tobacco, drugs, and alcohol.)
  • Due to the nature of our ministry with adolescent boys, we have a strong preference for male applicants at least 21 years of age.
  • Exhibits the spiritual gift of shepherding, to provide spiritual guidance and support to our students.
  • High School Diploma or GED (Some college coursework relating to the Mental Health field is preferred.)
  • Experience working with adolescents or youth in addiction recovery preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively within an ethnic, cultural, and socially diverse student population.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective, cooperative, and caring relationships with staff, students, parents, volunteers, guest, and the public.
  • Personal discretion concerning information of organizational life shared in the flow of staff relations.
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to keep clear and concise records.
  • CPR, First Aid Training preferred.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, a clean driving record per organizational policy, and reliable personal transportation.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends (including Family Weekends), holidays, and special circumstances such as inclement weather.
  • Able to pass criminal background check.

 

 

REPORTS TO:

Directly to the Program Director with shift oversight from the Residential Coordinator, and general oversight from the Executive Director organization-wide.

 

 

OVERSIGHT OF:

            Possible Volunteers

 

 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:

  • Hourly, non-exempt. Full and part time positions available.
  • Rate contingent upon education and applicable work experience
  • Not to exceed 40 hours per week without permission from Program Director
  • Eligible for standard vacation benefits, sick leave/personal days contingent upon staffing ratio requirements

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all MATC policies/procedures/protocols at all times.
  • Enforce all content of Student Handbook at all times.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and events as required, such as staff meetings, trainings, church services, family weekends, banquets, graduations, etc.
  • Supervise students at all times (24 hours a day), maintaining full sight & sound awareness to ensure the presence and well-being of the students remains secure.
  • Provide overview of the treatment program (rules, procedures, and services) with new students at admission.
  • While maintaining professional boundaries with students, develop appropriate rapport to support students in their recovery and growth in managing their own behavior. Give support and help during times of emotional stress.
  • Provide Godly counsel to students, continually encouraging them toward personal growth. Staff should be able and prepared to lead students to Christ, conduct Bible Studies, and supervise daily devotions if necessary.
  • Place limits on inappropriate behaviors and administer discipline when necessary according to Teen Challenge policies.
  • Respond appropriately to all emergencies, reporting any and all condition changes (behavioral, physical, mental, and/or spiritual) to both the Program Director and the Residential Coordinator to insure the proper care and treatment is provided.
  • Maintain and submit all up-to-date student shift notes, critical incident reports, and any other required documentation or data in a timely manner in order to keep all staff well informed of student activities and incidents.
  • Regularly seek constructive feedback and input from supervisors and fellow staff members.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Program Director.
  • Check campus grounds every 15 minutes
  • Make sure all doors are locked, windows closed, and security alarm is active

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The work requires physical exertion and moving about including bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching and similar activities. Lifting objects required; typically, weight does not exceed 40 lbs.Snow shoveling may be required.
  • Job functions may include tasks with possibility of exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Mental/Visual Demands: Mental and visual alertness, concentration, and attention are required.

Therefore, additional duties may be assigned from time to time as circumstances dictate. Also because of the nature of the role, this person must demonstrate a high level of trust and the ability to protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality. This is critical.
